Uefa has unveiled Qatar Airways as the latest sponsor of this summer’s rescheduled European Championship.

The deal will see Qatar’s state-owned flag carrier serve as the official airline of the national team soccer tournament, which is taking place from 11th June to 11th July.

Under the arrangement, Qatar Airways’ branding will feature heavily across the event’s digital platforms and at the stadiums scheduled to host games during the tournament.

The agreement broadens Qatar Airways’ already extensive presence in global sport, which includes sponsorship deals with some of Europe’s top soccer clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and AS Roma.

“The power of sport to unite people is unrivalled, and this partnership with Uefa Euro 2020 is an excellent opportunity for us to witness the very best in European football,” said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways’ group chief executive. “Furthermore, this alliance illustrates our commitment to Europe, and accentuates our growing sporting partnership portfolio.”

Other partners of Euro 2020 include Alipay, LD Sports,Booking.com, Coca-Cola, FedEx, Heineken, Hisence, Socar, Takeaway.com, TikTok, Vivo and Volkswagen.

In a release announcing the latest deal, European soccer’s governing body reiterated that the tournament will be played across 12 cities in Europe.

It had previously been reported that the United Kingdom could step in as sole host of the event, but Matt Hancock, the country’s health secretary, has since told Sky News that is not the case.

When asked about reports suggesting the UK has offered to stage the tournament, Hancock said: “I haven’t seen anything on that, I understand that that’s not right.”
