AirStraw Seeks Funding for Portable, Battery-Operated Ventilators

Vienna, Austria – April 30, 2020 – AirStraw announced that it has launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund the production of its emergency ventilators. The affordable ventilators will be made available worldwide to aid COVID-19 patients and the startup team will utilize the funds for prototype improvements to make it ready for production. The battery-powered ventilators will serve high population densities and areas with limited medical infrastructure.

AirStraw is a multidisciplinary company and its NIV-CPAP Emergency Ventilator is specially designed to meet the needs of the COVID-19 pandemic. The need for ventilators is increasing as the novel coronavirus continues its deadly march across the planet. A vaccine is potentially two years away and many more people will die without the life-saving benefit of sufficient ventilators.

The AirStraw Emergency Ventilator combines non-invasive ventilation (NIV) with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to create the NIV-CPAP devices. They contain state-of-the-art air filtration and humidification systems that include a sterile water tank. The company’s innovative and compact design is cost effective, coming in at just $149, while traditional models can cost upward of $30,000 depending upon the manufacturer.

The ventilators are equally applicable in traditional hospital environments and in mobile hospitals. They operate on rechargeable D cell or IEC R20 batteries and the ventilators can provide continuous service for up to 24 hours before the batteries need to be recharged. The battery operated ventilators make them highly mobile and able to be deployed in areas where traditional electrically-operated ventilators won’t function.

The Indiegogo fundraising effort launched by AirStraw will provide medical professionals around the world with an efficient and cost-effective ventilator in the battle against COVID-19. The AirStraw Emergency Ventilator is designed to be produced in large quantities, deployed quickly, and can be used in environments where other models wouldn’t be applicable. AirStraw ventilators come equipped with everything required for immediate use, including the batteries, tube, and nose piece assembly.
