Dubai, UAE – April 20, 2020 – After participation in various international photography contests and exhibitions, and achieving many awards, medals and certificates, the Global Photographic Union – GPU, headquartered in Italy, has given the Crown 1 distinction to the Syrian Kurdish photographer Bengin Ahmad. This is the first time that Syria has been added to the list of Crown Distinction holders in the GPU.

Thanks to his constant participation in various art exhibitions and contests in over 15 countries, and achieving gold, silver and bronze medals, honorable mentions and certificate of acceptance from the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), Photographic Society of America (PSA), Global Photographic Union, and other photography organizations and societies, he was legible to receive this distinction.

His first gold medal was from the Photographic Society of America (PSA Gold Medal).

GPU system for Crown Distinctions is based on the points that photographers collect from awards, honorable mentions and acceptances, in international exhibitions & contests under the patronage of those organizations. Gaining more points allows photographers to apply for higher distinctions.

Bengin Ahmad was born in a Syrian Kurdish family in Aleppo in 1986. He started his journey in photography in 2007, parallel to following his passion for digital art, design and creative direction.

Bengin held his first solo photography exhibition in 2009 in his city Aleppo.  Shortly after he moved to Dubai in United Arab Emirates and since then he is living and working between Dubai and Germany. During his extensive travels, he managed to capture photos in different topics & themes, such as Equine Photography, Portraits, Architecture, Conceptual and more. He also delivers lectures and workshops about the same topics that he masters.

Bengin Ahmad’s Art and Photography Philosophy:

Bengin considers that art and knowledge cannot be separated as they are interwoven and completing each other, and this is the foundation of his designs and artworks including photography. Bengin believes that innate knowledge can explain stories, that can’t be told with words nor with human collective experiences, however, the acquired knowledge can enrich the interpretation of the artworks and share deeper stories.

As of art and photography rules and themes, Bengin considers them as a great starting point, however, breaking those rules with creativity has always been his goal. He always uses the example of someone trying to learn writing, but by patience, experience, and creativity can ended up in calligraphy that breaks many rules and comes up with unique artworks.

Since Bengin Ahmad is passionate about music and he is into composing, he assumes photography themes as different music genres, like someone who knows how to play different kinds of music, but there are always some specific genres which are his most favorite.

His artworks have been widely published in international magazines, newspaper and online media such as ABC News, the London Magazine, HuffPost, United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNIRC), BBC, Sputnik News, Reason, Samsung C&T Corporation, ArchDaily and more.

He also writes articles on photography, art and design on his social media pages such as Instagram (@benginahmad) and Linkedin.

Bengin Ahmad is a member of serval international and regional organizations such as International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), Global Photographic Union (GPU), Union of Arab Photographers (UAP), The Photographic Society of America (PSA), Gulf Photographic Center (GPC).

He desires to leave a Syrian and Kurdish imprint on his art, and be part of showcasing the intellectual, cultural and artistic legacy of Syria with its Nations and thousands of years of history and civilization. He deeply hopes to be part of preserving such a legacy even with the slightest contribution. He believes that all his endeavors are just a tiny beam of light comparing to the sharp lenses of other photographers who rolled their cameras to document what dictators, racists, sectarians and colonists have done to ruin Syrian identity and sovereignty which sadly leads to the destruction of this cradle of civilization and its art.

He believes that art – especially photography – and literature have a great impact on shaping each different era and paving the way to a promising future filled with art and peace.
