The Hosiery & Optical Virtual Pavilion provides international buyers with new transnational browsing opportunities

Online exports are borderless! Because of the coronavirus outbreak, many international activities have been postponed or cancelled, and exports have slowed. In response to this, and to help international buyers discover Taiwan’s excellent products, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) has “constructed” the first thematic “Hosiery & Optical Virtual Pavilion.” The Pavilion features 60 of Taiwan’s latest hosiery, footwear, and eyewear fashion items. Buyers have the convenience of browsing from home, and can easily make enquiries, place orders and enjoy transnational browsing!

In light of the coronavirus epidemic and the tough challenges facing exporters, TAITRA’s President and CEO, Walter M.S. Yeh, stated that as early as February 2020 the Council had already initiated a diversified response aimed at facilitating digital trade. One measure is to provide resources to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to help them capture new opportunities by shifting to online transactions. This includes an increased use of video, which helps local companies connect with buyers who have cancelled buying trips. It replaces physical trips with video links and online transactions.

In addition, TAITRA has added two dedicated sections to Taiwantrade.com, namely, “Anti-epidemic” and “Stay-at-Home Economy.” This website, initiated by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, is Taiwan’s most prominent B2B platform. The site features a wide array of products supplied by 8,000 Taiwanese manufacturers. The two new additions noted above immediately captured the attention of international buyers and recorded more than 2,000 transactions.

The new online exhibits are being supplemented by new technologies, such as virtual pavilions that include digital catalogues, 360-degree videos and three-dimensional models. The Hosiery & Optical Virtual Pavilion was originally going to join “Fashion World Tokyo” until this show was postponed.

In light of this, TAITRA decided to break new ground and instead “construct” a larger virtual pavilion that could feature an even broader range of products, including hosiery, innovative seamless 3D socks made from coffee-based yarn, new clothing materials and attractive eyewear.

Taiwan’s online exhibits and virtual pavilions are designed for transnational browsing, and three more are in the pipeline.

According to TAITRA, the Hosiery & Optical Virtual Pavilion will be followed in the near future by three more virtual pavilions; specifically, pavilions focusing on “Internet of Things/Smart Healthcare,” “Industrial Themes”, and a “Taiwan Image Virtual Pavilion.” All of these will exhibit comprehensive collections of products, with special features related to the SME community. Combined with the strengths of Taiwantrade.com, these online presentations will provide round-the-clock virtual exhibitions free of the restrictions of time and space. These new resources will help buyers enjoy their on-line browsing experience, and at the same time help Taiwan’s SMEs capture new opportunities.
