Schneider Electric To Replace Entire 14,000 Car Fleet With EVs By 2030

09:35 2020

Schneider Electric announced that they are joining the EV100 initiative, and will be replacing their entire fleet of over 14,000 cars with electric vehicles by 2030.

Schnieder is joining 66 other member EV100 companies like Clif Bar & Company, EDF Group, Goldman Sachs, Ikea Group and others that have pledged to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles and to replace their entire fleet of vehicles to electric by 2030.

The EV100 is described as follows in the press release:

EV100 is a global initiative by The Climate Group bringing together forward-looking companies committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs), to make electric transport ‘the new normal’ by 2030. Electric transport offers a major solution to climate change, as well as curbing air and noise pollution.

Businesses can lead through their investment decisions and influence millions of staff and customers worldwide. By joining EV100 they increase demand, drive mass roll-out, and make electric cars more rapidly affordable for everyone. In driving corporate EV uptake, The Climate Group works closely with regional engagement partners Ceres and Japan Climate Leaders Partnership.

Schneider operates in over 50 countries around the world, so their fleet of vehicles is vast. They currently operate over 14,000 vehicles in total, all of which will be electric by the end of this decade.

“At Schneider Electric, we committed to net zero operational carbon emissions by 2030, in line with a 1.5°C science-based climate trajectory. Joining the EV100 initiative is a key step to deliver this ambition. Such a transformation allows us to embark thousands of our employees, customers, start-ups, together into a variety of innovations. We believe electricity is the future of mobility and we want to demonstrate that a rapid scale-up of EVs can be reached in 10 years. Schneider EcoStruxure’s unique end-to-end approach to eMobility infrastructure delivers comprehensive, seamless, scalable and cybersecure EV charging marketplace solutions for fleets and public places.”, says Leonid Mukhamedov, Executive Vice-President, Global Strategy at Schneider Electric.”

Schneider also joined the Climate Group’s RE100 and EP100 initiatives. RE100’s purpose is to accelerate change towards zero-carbon grids, on a global scale. Switching corporate energy demand to renewables is transforming the global energy market and accelerating the transition toward a clean economy.

The RE100 initiative works to increase corporate demand for – and in turn supply of – renewable energy, by:

  • Bringing together major companies committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity globally in the shortest possible timeline (by 2050 at the latest);
  • Setting the bar for corporate leadership on renewable electricity, holding members to account, and celebrating their achievements to encourage others to follow;
  • Communicating the compelling business case for renewables to companies, utilities, market operators, policymakers and other key influencers;
  • Highlighting any barriers to realizing the business and economic benefits of renewable electricity as reported by RE100 members;
  • Working with RE100 members and in partnership with others to highlight and address policy and market barriers to corporate sourcing of renewable electricity.

Finally, the EP100 is the Climate Group’s global initiative partnership with the  Alliance to Save Energy  that brings together a growing group of energy-smart companies committed to improving their energy productivity and doing more with less.

Kudos to Schneider Electric. We’re happy when we see large global companies take action to reduce their carbon footprint and help drive global electric vehicle adoption. It’s not only the 14,000 electric vehicles that they will be putting into service, it will probably lead to many more EV purchases.

Schneider’s employees that drive those vehicles will probably be getting their first exposure to electric drive, and will likely be more inclined to get an EV for their personal vehicle, once they’ve had the chance to drive one for work. Well done, Schneider.
