Vet Candy teams up with finance experts at Triune to provide the “Guide to Money Matters” for veterinary professionals

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges recently released their annual report that includes details from the 30 accredited US schools and colleges of veterinary medicine and information from 14 international members, including Canada. According to this report, there are 13,323 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students studying at member institutions this year.  Students are now paying an average of $31,979 for in-state and $52,613 for out-of-state tuition.  Approximately 80% of these students will graduate with debt that averages $169,046.

Practicing veterinarians are also dealing with debt, some are living paycheck to paycheck or collecting additional consumer debt, despite being paid a six figure salary.

Financial issues, like debt, are a common factors for stress. Recent wellness surveys have also suggested that money matters are a common problem troubling veterinarians these days.

In order to provide assistance with this important issue, Vet Candy teamed up with Bryan Gum, Certified Financial Planner™, of Triune Financial Partners, LLC. Vet Candy and Gum have created a guide for veterinarians to educate them about common financial issues, including saving money, creating a budget, and paying off debt.

“Most veterinarians do not have a strong background in finance,” says Vet Candy CEO, Jill Lopez, DVM, MBA. “Vet Schools, like many professional schools, rarely focus on finances and money matters.” Lopez says that the free guide will make it easier for veterinary professionals to make better fiscal decisions.

“Money matters have a way of causing stress in our lives,” says Bryan Gum, “I am very happy to be teaming up with Vet Candy to provide what I believe is vital information for veterinary professionals.”
